Monday, 19 October 2026 — many families plan wedding gold in dollars but pay in dinars.

The key news: On Sunday, Gulf 21K gold sold at 990,000 dinars a mithqal in Baghdad, and Iraqi 21K at 960,000. In Erbil, 18K gold was about 857,000 dinars a mithqal. The Baghdad dollar rate closed at 168,500 dinars per $100.

What it means for wedding families: Your dollar savings now convert into more dinars than before the devaluation, but gold in dinars has also risen. What matters is how many mithqals your budget buys today.

Example: A $10,000 wedding budget converts to about 16,850,000 dinars at 168,500 per $100. At 990,000 a mithqal, that buys about 17 mithqal of Gulf 21K before workmanship. For a gift, a 1-mithqal 18K piece in Erbil costs about 857,000 dinars, under one million.

Advice for families: Write the full list first (set, bracelet, ring, gifts), then decide the karat for each piece. 18K suits lighter gifts; 21K suits the main set. Ask for workmanship in writing.

The honest caution: Prices change daily with gold and the dollar. Keep a margin of about 5–10% in your budget, and never borrow to buy wedding gold.
